The Breakdown:
I've been in HP fandom since just after OotP, first as a lurker and fervent H/D shipper, and later as a writer and shipper of many ships. I enjoy: H/D, H/Hr, H/R, D/Hr, H/D/Hr, H/R/Hr, SB/RL, H/L, and the occasional SS/HP and SB/HP. Honestly, though, I'll ship just about anything if the pairing is well-written and true to the characters.

I'll read pretty much any rating, as well--from the cutest fluffy G to the raunchiest NC-17. I do have some squicks: bestiality, necrophilia, twincest, anyone under 15 doing dirty things, anything poop-related, golden showers, squids. I'm sure there's more that I just don't know exist, haha.

So that's me! Sometimes I fall off the face of the earth for a bit, but in the end I always come back to my fandom haven. ;) Feel free to comment here if you want to be friends, and chances are I'll friend you back!

Holy. Fucking. Shit. shellydkitty just told me.

shellydkitty, who is always up-to-date on the latest wank and scandal, tells me there was an explosion of mini-wank over that other journaling site. Apparently, some girl embedded a stat-counter in her fic entries, telling her how many people read the entry. One of the people who commented on her fic said she liked it right up until the counter, and didn't appreciate being counted as a reader.

I have counters on my fic entries here on IJ, firstly because I am anal and secondly because it encourages me to write more when I see that people are reading the things I've already written. I love getting comments, even ones that just say, "Liked it!" because even though I write mostly for myself, I have my fellow fans in mind as my audience, and I'm really telling a story that I hope will entertain them. It's rewarding to know that I accomplished that.

Back before I started writing fic, I never commented on other people's works. It just didn't occur to me that doing so would matter that much to an author. But it means the world to me, and now that I've started writing, I make sure to leave a comment on any story I read, even if it's just "Yay, I liked!" (Well, except on LJ, out of sheer spite. A few people have linked me to fic on LJ lately, and I just can't bring myself to comment, even if one of my friends wrote it.)

Summary

The idea of this excercise is to understand exactly how dynamic a person's sexual orientation can be, as well as how fluid it can be over a person's lifespan. While a person's number of actual homo/heterosexual encounters may be easy to categorize, their actual orientation may be completely different. Simple labels like "homosexual", "heterosexual", and "bisexual" need not be the only three options available to us.

Also: I finally ordered a new iPod after I dropped my other one off a flight of stairs and broke it. I got the black 80s gb, which was more than I wanted to spend ($249), but I get fucking depressed without music. I can't wait till it gets here and I can start loading it up with tunes!

What I look for in fics I rec:

I rate with stars because I prefer that to writing some version of "Why You Should Read This Fic!!" which for me always turns into a tedious task. I can say up front that every fanfic on this list is one that I find exceptionally good and would re-read again, and the stars are an easy visual way of representing my personal favorites. Titles in blue are the most recent recs.

This is an old essay on writing Luna in fanfic I found linked in dreamyeyed_luna. It's over on evil lj, but still an interesting read.

Meanwhile, these two discussions (also on evil lj) about fandom no longer flying under the radar and possible repercussions in real life are a good read, as well. I'm torn about the whole thing, as usual, but I think that ultimately I'll be deleting my lj completely and keeping fandom posts on ij open, personal posts locked.

I think there's more pondering I need to do on the above subject, but for now I must eat and shower and all that good stuff.

Well, I finally schlepped my ass over here. Livejournal clearly sucks, and Greatestjournal is dead--plus, shellydkitty tells me fandom is blossoming in this lil corner of the internet. It's kind of invigorating, having this chance to connect with new, like-minded people who might have been lost in the crowd over at LJ.
